Board of Directors

2008 - 2009 AIM Society Board of Directors

Following our recent Annual General Meeting of June 6, 2005, we warmly welcome both new and returning members to the Board of Directors, and wholly extend our gratitude and our wishes for all best fortune to the past directors who have helped shape the positive direction of our Society, but unfortunately will not be serving on the Board for this ensuing year.

Thank you, all.

Our past and present, and certainly future Boards are comprised of unique and dedicated individuals committed to excellence of service and development.

The positions on the Board of Directors include: President; Vice-President; Treasurer; Secretary; Past-President; Director at Large. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community. A Director recognizes his/her role as a member of the Board and does not speak or act on behalf of the Society without the Boards consent.

Requirements of Board membership include but are not restricted to:

  1. Commitment to the work of the organization.

  2. Develop or bring with knowledge and/or skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, personnel, and/or advocacy.

  3. Serve on committees.

  4. Attendance at monthly Board meetings, General Meetings, and Committee Meetings as assigned.

  5. Attendance at meetings of assigned committees.

  6. Attendance at Annual General Meetings.

  7. Support of, and participation in, fundraising.

  8. Must be a member of Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society.

Directors serve a two-year term and are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting.

Luther Dougherty

Luther Dougherty currently serves as President of the Foothills AIM Society Board of Directors, and has previously contributed as a Board Director and on a number of Society committees. He brings extensive experience as a Certified Financial Planner with eleven plus years in the financial services industry, along with 13 years of law enforcement within the Alberta government. Luther also serves as a Town Councillor for High River. As both a third generation resident of High River and a third generation member of the High River business community, Luther has deep roots within the community. In his own words, "One attraction that High River has is its 'small town atmosphere'. It is this attitude that makes High River home, not just a place. Actually, this small town attitude is the feeling that neighbours are friends - and they are helping to watch out for my kids and my home."

Chad Lambourn

Hello.  I have had the great fortune to be involved with AIM for a few years now, working as a one day a week job coach.  Just in this last year have I been sitting on the Board of Directors.  My wife Kathy and I are actively involved as volunteer coaches with the Foothills Special Olympics here in High River and area.  This experience along with being a local business person, I hope will allow me to be an important member of such a winning group of people.

Sheila A. Culton

After retiring to High River in 1999, I joined AIM as - and still remain - a respite care provider in February 2000, which was quite a departure from my previous career as Corporate Secretary of Crown Life Insurance Company in Toronto and Regina (1987-1998). Previously I had worked in Alberta for Home Oil Company Ltd., and Panarctic Oils Ltd., former major players in the oil industry in this province. From March 2001 until June 2004 I was a member of the AIM Board of Directors, acted as Secretary to the Board and also served on the Executive Committee of the Society. Having taken a break from non-profit society involvement for a couple of years, I became a Director of Abbeyfield House Society of High River in September 2006 and still serve in that capacity. I was delighted to be asked to rejoin the AIM Board in June 2007. I look forward to serving on the Board and contributing to the future continuing success of the Society.

Eric Ward

Eric, his wife Maureen, and their Downs Syndrome son, Michael, moved from Calgary to High River in January 2004.  Eric is a teacher - or should we say "was" - and retired at the end of the 2003 school year.  His thirty-four years working with junior high school students was a wonderful experience, but the hectic pace of city life became wearisome for the entire family, and the prospect of life in a smaller centre was very appealing.  They have quickly found High River to be an excellent place to live and have become active in the community.  Eric is very pleased to have the opportunity to serve on the Foothills AIM Society Board of Directors.

Ron Schmidt

Hello my name is Ron Schmidt. I have been married for 21 years and have two wonderful children. I have lived in High River for 17 years. I am a barber by profession, thirty nine years and counting to be exact! I have owned and operated my own business in High River for the past 14 years.
Currently I am a member of the Highwood Lions Club. I also coach with Foothills Special Olympics in my spare time. I am very involved with music, singing and playing in a folk band. I am also involved in numerous local musical and theatre productions. A grand part of my life is music, as such; I have accepted the responsibility of coordinating entertainment for the newly constructed bandstand in George Lane Park.
As a parent and long time resident of High River I am thrilled at the opportunity to become involved with the Foothills AIM Society. I have watched this organization carefully over the years and have been impressed by what I see! I believe the AIM Society will play an important role in the lives of my own two children!
